Marine Corps Lance Corporal Anson “NubGunner" Roberts was stationed in Iraq in 2007 on an EOD Security Team when they ran into a complex ambush. While his cohorts dismounted and cleared a house they were taking fire from, Nubgunner tried to maneuver his HMMWV for support when he struck a massive IEDleaving him unconscious and on fire. Roberts suffered first-degree flash burns on his face, with second and third-degree burns to his hands and legs. He ended up losing all of his fingers and nearly complete use of his hands, though the man is still an expert with any gun and can change diapers with the best of them. Roberts retired in 2009 and returned stateside to start a family, and even found time to earn a degree in history from The Ohio State University.
