This show follows a wierdly smart, borderline autistic, linguist as he discovers himself and his true identity with his squad first in the 1.5 year AIT(with a 80% attrition rate), and then as he settles into an infantry unit as a motorpool clerk. Note, during conflicts, many linguists without expertise in the target language of the conflict take on "rear" activities including motorpool, guarding the post, picking up litter.
Season 1: DLI in Monterrey - studying all week, 6 hours a night every weekday, followed by "mandatory fun" on the weekends which is where all the hookups and hapless drinking take place; all while the school attendees think they're going to become James/Jane Bond.
- Main Plot -Army Barracks - Men: Focus on the many "on the spectrum" types, identifying one PFC (Main character) who slowly realizes his lack of civilian social skills translated into a lack of social skills in the military as he discovers he's on the spectrum and will never get laid. Becomes uber-boot to overcompensate.
= Subplot 1 - AF Women's barracks - A monthly game for the ladies 1 point for an army hookup, 2 points for marine corps, -1 for AF, 3 for a proposal, and 4 for publicly declining a proposal. None want the main character.
- Subplot 2 - The SF/Seals find out a new PFC ( the main character) has beaten all their PT scores, which makes their SFC/Chief force them to do better on the final school PPT than the PFC or gain "retribution". In order to do so without work, they get the PFC drunk multiple times until he becomes a raging alcoholic, at which point they help him out of a jam and get him back on track... to promotion to the SPC mafia.
Season 2: A non-native speaking Arabic linguist (our newly promoted SPC, our character) who has been in school for the 1.5 years after basic, now comes to the 3rd infantry Division to become (his fantasy - James Bond). He quickly learns that AIT hard is a lot different than infantry hard. Also, he is now the company maintenance clerk, performing police calls to get cigarette butts (which are tossed at him by everyone as a running joke).
Subplot 1 - The new linguist's squad is determined to put the NUG through his paces, but finds he can beat them at all their games, even though he still is borderline autistic, making them hate him more.
Subplot 2 - The Batallion commander holds an annual "Linguistics Olympiad" testing the language skills of each squad. This year's twist? The final competition is a secret and is in Spanish (because the BN CO believes that all Spanish comes from Arabic). The main character helps the squad place 2nd (not first though), because he gets titillated by a member of the 1st place team, a male soldier. Turns out the main character wasn't an autist after all, he was gay. Becomes an actual uber-boot after getting pegged by his new "battle buddy".
