For an opening thread I wanted to comment and view the difficulty and challenge it is to take a soldier, sailor, or airman and project it on to a screen. I've been out for around a decade and wanted to know: Are there rules to a characters persona? How much political topics can a character bring up? How cocky can one be till they hit an existential crisis in accepting death, profiting and benefiting from a war, or being a 33 year old taking orders from a 21 year old? Experiencing Erectile Dysfunction? And so many other stupid experiences that comes out of no where.
Mainly the art of a veteran reflecting or active duty person to project a character on screen and expect them to behave a certain way. Personally I enjoyed Recruiters and others. There are some much stories and I am interested in knowing if any media actually spot on a, sort of military screen play character tree.
