I remember playing witness to an Acting-Sub Lieutenant (Royal Canadian Navy) on a power trip while I was out for a smoke, some brand new boot Ordinary Seaman forgot to salute this officer, this officer turned around and barked at the OS "WE SALUTE OFFICERS IN THIS NAVY!!" the OS got jittery and saluted the officer very urgently. the Lt smiled saluted back then responded "Good, now salute me 100 times so you'll remember for the next time." The OS trying to stay out of trouble proceeded to do as directed while the officer, standing in a crossed arms, counted the salutes. I went to relight another cigarette to watch this train wreck continue and noticed the Base Chief Petty Officer walking by and catching notice of an OS saluting this officer repeatedly while the Lt was counting and asked him what were they doing. the Lt proudly said "teaching this OS to salute officers!." the Chief then replied "Very good sir, but I'm sure you know that every salute paid to you, you must return to sender as per the Queen's Regulations and Orders."
Never thought I'd seen pride turn to grimace so fast ahaha.
